McBean & Co Design was engaged to activate an underperforming forecourt within the Bankstown Homemaker Centre, repositioning it as a family-focused destination to drive visitation and increase dwell time.

Working within a defined capital budget, we delivered a landmark timber parrot playground in collaboration with a specialist supplier. The sculptural installation provided immediate visual identity and marketing appeal. The scope incorporated landscaping, compliant safety fencing, parent seating and supporting amenities to ensure operational durability and customer comfort.

The intervention shifted the space from passive thoroughfare to active community hub, strengthening the centre’s appeal to young families and supporting cross-shopping across adjacent retailers.

The playground was subsequently recognised by Parks & Adventure of Sydney as one of the best playgrounds in Sydney, reinforcing the project’s design quality and strong public engagement.

This project demonstrates how targeted placemaking investment can enhance asset positioning, broaden demographic reach and support long-term leasing performance.
