Surfers Paradise QLD
McBean & Co Design was engaged to prepare a strategic Concept Design framework to guide staged capital works over several years. The objective was to identify high-impact opportunities to enhance customer engagement, elevate ambience and better connect the centre to its exceptional beachside location.
The vision centred on bringing the coastal context into the mall environment —creating a space that felt vibrant, relaxed and reflective of its community. Beyond aesthetic improvement, the strategy focused on increasing dwell time, strengthening identity and supporting long-term asset performance.
Once the capital allocation was confirmed by Elanor Investors, the scope was prioritised to maximise impact within budget. Key initiatives included furniture clusters, integrated planting and hanging planters, and layered feature lighting to create defined pause points throughout the centre. Lighting was upgraded centre-wide to improve efficiency, reduce glare and better highlight retailers.
Further works included skylight repairs to enhance natural light, refreshed entrances with artwork to strengthen arrival experience, and the transformation of entertainment areas using darker tonal finishes and neon accents to create energy and contrast.
The result was a focused, staged upgrade strategy that elevated atmosphere while reinforcing commercial value.
